Meet The HU band from Mongolia!

It's been a long time since I posted my last article on my "English" blog. Been busy mostly with my "Mongolian" blog.
But I am working on a subject about Mongolian children who ride racehorses during organized festivities in Mongolia, and it's getting really slow because I have been paying too much attention to the other blog. Hopefully I will get something done soon.

The Hu band
But today  I wanted to steer your attention to an interesting appearance in the music world and introduce a band from Mongolia named The Hu. The name is pronounced like "who" in English, and derives from the word Hunnu , aka  Xiongnu ,  name of the tribal confederation of nomadic peoples, ones a powerful statehood existed from 3rd century BC to 1st century AD. The home of that statehood was modern-day Mongolia and some surrounding territories. Hunnu is to be believed as the ancestors of Mongolic people. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xiongnu

The Hu band is getting very popular with its first 2 songs: "Yu ve, yu ve" and "The wolf totem".

"Yu ve" means literally "what is (it)" but in this case  it means  "Why is it so" (= how strange). The lyrics consist of words of very critical nature describing how bad the things have become nowadays in the sense of people's behaving and the way they have changed.

Lyrics:      Yu ve, yu ve?

It's been so long eating and drinking, being merry, how strange, how strange
Bragging about our Mongol ancestors , showing an empty pride, how strange, how strange
Taking oath not to honor and backing down, how strange, how strange
And not obeying ancient custom and values, how strange, how strange

Hey you traitor, kneel down
Hey, a decree be issued!

Born of majesty but can't wake up from a deep sleep, how strange, how strange
Foolishly declaring that only the Mongols are the best, how strange, how strange
We Mongols  of noble birth, yet can't unite as one, how strange, how strange
And can't rise up our Mongol nation, how strange, how strange

Hey you traitor kneel down
Hey, a decree be issued!

Why can't we cherish the lands inherited from our forefathers, how strange, how strange
And the heritage left by elders became worthless too, how strange, how strange
Mongols with wolf totem blessed by Heaven will be prospering eternally
The Lord Chinggis (aka Genghis khan), covered with glory, will come back

Oh Black banner, be raised, be raised
Oh the Khanate (royal power) shall rise forever

The other song is called "Wolf totem". It is like a chant, a war-chant or fighting chant. The Wolf is an animal worshiped by Mongolians as the symbol of courage and cleverness.

Lyrics:   The wolf totem

When lions come, we brawl to death
When tigers come, we battle to the end
When elephants come, we slash them
When humans come, we fight forcefully

When you pose as poisonous snake
We'll become Garuda and fly over you
When you come as striped tigers
We'll face you as lions with blue mane

When you come with evil intentions,
We'll give you a fight

We'll strike you like a thunder by units of ten
Shatter your hearts by units of hundred
Clash and destroy you by units of thousand
Hand you Heaven's ravage by units of ten thousand

When you come flooding
We'll fight to the end
When you come swarming
We'll shatter you to pieces

When you come flying
We'll shoot you down
When you come storming
We'll slice you with our swords

Let's charge with falcon's speed
Let's rage with wolf's courage
Let's trample  with horse hooves
Let's defeat with Chinggis Khaan's wisdom

Lastly, The Hu band will be touring soon in Europe and those who want to listen their songs in live will have a chance to do so.
Here is the schedule posted online.

Enjoy!  :)
